Public Wi-Fi Terms and Conditions
These terms explain how you can use the free West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) Wi-Fi network (the Service). By connecting, you agree to follow these rules.
1. Acceptable Use Policy
This policy prevents you from doing certain things while using the Service. If you break these rules, we may suspend your access, end your service, or cooperate with law enforcement if a civil or criminal offence is suspected.
Prohibited Activities
You must not use the Service in a way that violates any laws or infringes on the rights of others. This includes activities such as:
- Harming, or attempting to harm, minors in any way.
- Committing an offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
- Infringing on intellectual property rights (e.g., downloading or sharing pirated software, music, or films).
- Accessing, displaying, storing, or sending material that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, harassing, or which depicts sexually explicit images.
- Promoting illegal violence or discrimination based on race, gender, colour, religious belief, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Carrying out fraudulent or illegal activities.
Improper Use and Security
You must not use the Service in an immoral or improper manner. This includes activities such as:
- Making or sending communications that are offensive, indecent, threatening, or cause nuisance, annoyance, or unnecessary anxiety.
- Trying to gain unauthorised access to the Council's systems or the computer systems of other users.
- Doing anything that may damage the Council's reputation, financial interests, or ability to carry out its duties.
- Doing anything that slows down the Service or affects the ability of other users to use the internet.
- Using the Service for business purposes or to send unsolicited emails (spam).
- Reselling the Service to others.
2. Public Wi-Fi Disclaimer
When using the Service, please be aware of the following conditions and risks:
Service Quality and Filtering
- WDC cannot guarantee the Service will be compatible with your personal equipment.
- WDC cannot guarantee the Service will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses. We will take reasonable steps to provide the best service possible.
- We provide web content filtering to block racist, violent, pornographic, or offensive content. However, filtering is not always perfect, and WDC accepts no liability for any content you access.
Privacy, Security, and Liability
- The Service is monitored, and a secure log of all use (including websites visited) is kept to help improve the service and ensure compliance with this Policy.
- We will not use your personal information for any other purpose unless required to disclose it during the investigation of a suspected criminal or civil offence.
- WDC is not responsible for the privacy or security of your online activities. Be cautious when undertaking financial transactions, as you do so at your own risk.
- It is your responsibility to provide adequate security for your equipment, including anti-virus software.
- WDC is not responsible for any loss or damage to your equipment or data that may arise from using the Service.
Your Responsibility
By using this Service, you agree and acknowledge that:
- You are fully responsible for all activities and communications conducted under your use of the Service.
- You will not carry out any of the Prohibited Activities listed above.
- You will respect the privacy of other users and not cause unnecessary noise.
- You agree to cover (indemnify) West Dunbartonshire Council for any losses suffered by the Council if you fail to comply with this Policy.
