The Burgh's first purpose-built cinema, Dalmuir Picture House (re-named the Dalmuir Regal in 1930) opened on 1 January 1916 with a showing of Mother Goose. It was owned by a firm called Dalmuir Cinema House and showed only silent films. Initially, there were continuous screenings on weekdays from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm and cinema advertisements advised patrons to "come when you please and go when you please" during these hours.
The cinema closed in late September 1966, after final screenings of Arrow of the Avenger and Temple of the Lost Elephant.
See the site of the Regal in 2010.
