Clydebank residents are being given the chance to influence how Council money is spent in their area as part of a pilot initiative.
The Your Community: Your Choice participatory budgeting scheme is aimed at encouraging residents to play a greater role in spending decisions.
The approach will improve local services by enabling residents to voice what is most important to them in the community.
For the pilot, residents are being asked for ideas focused around improving walking and cycling routes in the town.
A total of £100,000 is available to deliver on the most popular ideas submitted.
It is anticipated that similar participatory budgeting initiatives, which are led by the Council’s Communities team, could be rolled out in other West Dunbartonshire areas in future.
Councillor Diane Docherty, Convener of Housing and Communities, said: “Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and we are keen to hear ideas for improvements to walking and cycling routes around Clydebank. I’d encourage as many of you as possible to take part in this pilot participatory budgeting initiative – it’s your chance to use your voice, and get your opinions heard on how Council money is spent in your area.”
Councillor Ian Dickson, Vice Convener of Housing and Communities, added: “Participatory budgeting is so important because it allows residents to share their ideas and proposals for projects with their communities and to have a direct say on spending priorities.
“Submitting your ideas is really simple, and once the deadline has been reached the community decide together on which ideas they can take forward.”
The deadline for ideas to be submitted is 28 February 2022.
A number of drop in sessions are being help in advance of this, to provide additional support to any resident who requires it. These are taking place at:
- Monday 31 January- 10.30am-12noon – Parkhall Library
- Tuesday 1 February 1.30pm-3pm – Skypoint
- Wednesday 2 February 11am-1pm – Duntocher Library
- Thursday 3 February 1pm-2.30pm – Centre 81
- Friday 4 February 12noon-1.30pm – Dalmuir Library
- Monday 7 February 2pm-3.30pm – Dalmuir Library
- Tuesday 8 February 2pm-3.30pm – Duntocher Library
- Wednesday 9 February 11am-12.30pm – Centre 81
- Thursday 10 February 10.30am-12noon – Skypoint
- Friday 11 February -10am-11.30am – Parkhall Library
After all ideas have been collated, members of the community will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite projects.
