A new 5K Loch Lomond Road Race is being introduced to the programme of outdoor events this year by West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust.
The route starts at the Moss O’Balloch in the centre of the village and continues through Balloch Castle Country Park, providing stunning views of both Loch Lomond and the National Park.
Entries for the race on Saturday, 18 June, are limited to 500 and the event is expected to sell out, so anyone interested in taking part is being encouraged to book their place now.
Along with the new 5K race, the Trust will also host the popular Loch Lomond 10k Road Race and a fun run for children in Primary 7 and under.
A range of other popular outdoor events delivered by the Trust on behalf of the Council will be returning throughout 2022/23 including the Scottish Pipe Band Championships and Loch Lomond Highland Games.
Councillor Ian Dickson, Convener of Corporate Services, said: “I’m sure this additional event will be very popular with the public, like all the other events on our calendar. Due to Covid restrictions, we have missed our outdoor events and it’s great to finally see we are getting back to some normality. I would encourage those wanting to take part in the race to register their place and I would also encourage family and friends to note the day and come along and offer your support in what will be a great day out.”
Councillor Iain McLaren, Vice Convener of Corporate Services, said: “This addition to the West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust events schedule is a great opportunity to sign up and confirm your commitment to getting fitter. Even if you can’t run the course, you could always do a mix of running and walking to enjoy the spectacular scenery during the race. Latest numbers show nearly half the spaces in the 10k race have already been booked, so I would encourage everyone to book their place soon to avoid disappointment.”
Participants of the 5K and 10k road race, which is being sponsored by CPR Resurfacing Ltd; JJR Print Ltd; COOP Food; The Malin Group and Achilles Heel, will receive a high quality branded event t-shirt, bespoke race medal and goodie bag for completing the event.
