The Fairtrade Networking group is trying to raise awareness of Fairtrade, promote products and generate interest in the campaign. The group has successfully achieved Fairtrade status for West Dunbartonshire.
The Networking group was set up in 2012 and has been promoting Fairtrade and working towards Fairtrade zone status for West Dunbartonshire ever since. There are already a number of local schools and churches which have or are working towards Fairtrade status. We are also hoping to reach out to the wider community and are also looking for volunteers for the networking groups, or local groups in Clydebank, Dumbarton or the Vale of Leven.
Fairtrade ensures producers in developing countries are paid a fair price for their goods. It means that workers benefit from a decent wage and working conditions and that the price they receive for their goods reflects the true cost of production. It also allows for investment in safe water supplies, sanitation, healthcare and education. This supports producers to work their way out of poverty and offers an excellent opportunity for them to improve their lives and the lives of their families. It is as simple as the choices you make in your weekly shop. If you are interested in joining the group email cuttingcarbon@west-dunbarton.gov.uk
